This version of chocolate chip cookies replaces most of the butter with applesauce. Smacking the pan halfway through baking helps the cookies flatten out and get crisp.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 Cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 Tsp Baking Powder, Hain Brand
  • 1/2 Tsp Baking Soda, Ener-G Brand
  • 1/2 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/3 Cup Unsalted Butter - Softened
  • 3/4 Cup Brown Sugar - Packed
  • 1/3 Cup Homemade Apple Sauce
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Preparation

Step 1:

Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Line a baking pan with parchment paper. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon in a medium size bowl. Mix together.

Step 2:

In a large bowl, combine the butter and brown sugar until well mixed. Add the applesauce and vanilla extract to the butter and stir it in until combined. Mix the dry ingredients in with the wet ingredients. Pour in the chocolate chips and fold into the batter.

Step 3:

Scoop the cookies (about 1.5 Tbl) and roll into balls. Place onto a cookie sheet a couple of inches apart. Place sheet into the oven and bake.  After about 7 minutes, smack the pan down a few times to help the cookies fall. Put back into the oven. Bake for about 10 minutes and take it out of the oven and smack the pan down again. Bake for another 7 minutes until the top is golden.
